Each of us carries around our own version of the English language. We have a shared history but each of us gives it a personal flavour, adding to the vocabulary and the usage and changing it through our own experience before passing it on to the next generation. By helping people become more familiar and friendly with their own language we think they will also gain a better grasp of its rich history, diversity and potential. We follow with great interest the various debates about the English language (whether from spelling to apostrophes). However, as an organisation we have no official view on these arguments. We are neutral. But we are happy to air the issues. We are committed, however, to undertaking all our projects in an intelligent, inclusive and entertaining way which involves (as far as possible) the English-speaking public across the globe. |
